open annotation

What is open annotation?

Open annotation tools allow people to work on annotating a webpage or digital source as a group but from different places. By signing into an open annotation tool, you can insert comments, text, or even pictures and diagrams into the margins of a website. You can share these comments to collaborate with team members.

How can I be creative with open annotation?

With open annotation, you can insert your own creative ideas and perspectives into an existing website. This can also include photos or diagrams you've made. You are able to create your own content to supplement existing content you are sharing.

Tips:

- Annotations should be additive, they are not a chance to restate the text

- Make use of formatting elements in the toolbar

- Enhance your annotation by inserting links or pictures

Our Example:

To use our Hypothes.is explore the website we've included and access the annotation tool by clicking the white arrow in the upper right-hand corner. Notice the little numbers on the far right margin. You can take those and view comments or highlight your own comments and add notes using the pencil tool. Try it out and leave notes for others to follow! See more about Hypothes.is below!
